I was working on this piece today using a (Graffiti Art) image given to us from Kimmie for the Digital Whisper challenge and it turned into a rather bright and colorful collage so I think it works well for the Theme Thursday challenge (Bright Colors) also .
There is some amazing graffiti art out there ranging from straight out obscene vandalism to beautiful art! I have a wonderful book "Graffiti Women" Street Art From Five Continents by Nicholas Ganz and I recommend it for viewing and perhaps giving the reader a new perspective on this crime of passion.

ReplyDeleteGreat artwork.
oh wow!!! wonderful work and I love the colours you used...you are amazing Lori!!!
ReplyDeleteBeing from a small town in the midwest in the 80s, I had never seen graffiti. The first time I saw it was on a business trip to Los Angeles. I was taken by the artistic nature and pure beauty I saw in it. I was shocked to learn that residents hated it and thought only a visitor could ever see beauty in it. Graffiti is now so popular, I have read that many artists, including fiber and quilt artists, are now creating their own graffiti signatures. I'm going to try to find this book, because I am still drawn to graffiti, although I have seen the destruction it can cause close to my own neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteYour depiction of this sensitive subject is moving. So unlike much of your art, I love this unexpected burst of bright color. It's good to see that you are able to cover two challenges with this incredible digital piece.
I've always admired the artist abilities of the graffitists, but let's face it. Most of them do their art on someone else's property. Having said that, I do love your piece. The colors are stunning.

ReplyDeleteNot only bright, but hot too! Gorgeous piece, Lori! My husband has worked in rail yards for many years and has collected some great photos of graffiti done on rail cars. This book sounds intriguing and I love that you can shift in many directions with your art, it is very cool - Cheers!
