Synthesis
This is my entry for the Take A Word challenge this week where the theme is "Masculine". If I take a look back through my blog over the past 3 years there is a definate absence of the masculine essence in my work. I don't know why- I'm just drawn to the more feminine aspect in imagery and theme. So this challenge was a good opportunity to explore. When looking for imagery I went to Leonardo Da Vinci as I think of him as a rather masculine artist; with amazing sketches, machines/ inventions, sepia colored work. Sometimes brutal and yet he can capture the soft gentleness of expression in both his female and male drawings. This digital collage (tries) to portray a sketchbook type of rendering ; a coming together of odd yet symbolic objects into a unified whole... or synthesis. Imagery credits go to Dover, Rosey Posey and Dawn Inskip at scrapbookgraphics. Overlay blending with Fresco and gradient filters in PSE.

Lori, this is a beautiful piece, with a haunting mood. It does evoke Da Vinci! Great take on the masculine theme.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully composed. You've managed the skethbook look perfectly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Lori. It all came together beautifully! xx
ReplyDeleteWow Lori this is very impressive.
ReplyDeleteStunning work my friend. xoxo
Leonardo was something else wasn't her. I also am thinking only of the Divine Feminine. She has been so neglected in our culture and consciousness. This has made me think also of the male essence, but not too much since the masculine has been so damaging to women all over the world. I know that balance is the key. I love your piece ... and he has a gentleness and peace about him.
ReplyDeleteHugs and Happiness to all.
Lori, you achieved what you set out to create. This is an amazing and wonderful piece of art.

It's true that Leonardo wasn't very masculine himself, but his imagery was powerfully virile.

ReplyDeleteFantastic collage! I love the way you overlayed all the elements.
ReplyDeleteWonderful presentation for this theme, Lori. I think most of us (in our circle anyway) are lacking masculine content in our art. I, too, love to work with the feminine and chilren pieces as well. Love this composition tho. Excellent.

What a wonderful face! I like your approach, and the use of the gradient filter was a stroke of genius!
ReplyDelete(I think we all have a scarcity of male images in our work--most likely because they are harder to find!)
I think we all gravitate toward ladies because that's what we are comfortable with and they hang better with flowers and ribbons...This is very handsome Lori!
