Water. An element of life that possesses the ability to carve out rock, move mountains, generate energy and create storms; can at the same time be a source of renewal, sustainability, rhythm and flow. We can learn from the nature of water. "Go with the flow"- that's my phrase for this year. Flowing water always follows the path of least resistance finding its way back home to the sea. It is always moving, bending, curving as it needs; to accomplish its goal. I like that principle- why resist when you can go around or over or under. Being an earth sign (Capricorn)
that's not easy for me but I will let the element of water be my guide for a while.
This is my digital entry for the
Three Muses Challenge this week (Water). I used a personal photo of a waterfall from a Yosemite trip a few years back, zoomed in to create the background and multiplied the layer for depth. Mermaid is from Dover (Rackham) and from her scales I made some rock-like elements . Gradient filters added in Photoshop.
I love your phrase for the year. Something I need to remind myself to do more often. Very thoughtful post and another gorgeous piece of art! Thank you for your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThe colours really bring out the magic of what's behind this piece. It's soft, yet you can also feel the power behind the water and you have the same in the mermaid - alluring and gentle looking but oh so dangerous!
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow Lori, this is magical!! Love it!! love the flow of the piece and the soft water colours. Excellent piece!! Standing ovations to you Lori!!

Fabulous piece, Lori, and a great post too! I hope that everyone enlarges this to see all of your gorgeous details and layers. The way you've used her scales to create texture is amazing! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Beautiful art, thoughtful words. I once read that all the waters of the world are one.....raindrop to rivulet to stream to creek to river to ocean, where it's swept up by the sun's rays to become raindrops yet again.

I've always felt that water is my element, so your post and art today are very meaningful to me. I've often wished to be a mermaid or a seal, slipping happily through the warm currents of the ocean. Your photography is so gorgeously real that I can almost feel the water flowing around me. Your art always amazes me, Lori.
