An Evening At The Blue Note

This digital collage was inspired by listening to some wonderful jazz the other night in San Francisco with our adult son (who is a professional jazz saxophonist). The sounds of jazz music are in my best description soothing, sophisticated and thought provoking. Pop music is great but it has a fleeting, frantic pace which at my age starts to make me nervous. I used cool, calming colors and tried to recreate an intimate and festive feel to this piece envisioning an evening out at a Jazz club called The Blue Note.

  2. I agree with your assessment of jazz vs. pop. I discovered jazz a few years ago and absolutely love it. How wonderful that you have such a talented son to share this with! Your piece is very soothing and the imagery you chose is perfect. Thank you for such an inspiring piece!

  3. j'aime aussi beaucoup le jazz , votre image donne une bonne ambiance , quelle chance vous avez d'avoir un saxophoniste dans la famille ! Dommage qu'il n'y ait pas la musique sur le blog !!!

  4. THis is absolutely gorgeous! Your work is so inspiring. How nice to be able to go & watch your son perform. I LOVE the saxophone, harmonica & piano... but NOT all jazz. I'm partial to Dixieland!

  6. I bet you had a wonderful time seeing your son perform. It's always nicer when there is a personal connection with the musician you are watching. I'm amazed that you call jazz calming. I've always thought of it as frenetic, discordant, and lacking harmony. Now I'm not saying I don't love jazz, because I do, but I sure interpret it differently than you. I suspect my musician friend would agree more with your description than mine, though.

Back to art, though. This piece truly is calming and so beautifully done.
