Natural History


This is my entry for the Take a Word challenge this week where the theme is "Bird Life". I love pouring through vintage botanical and bird illustrations and decided to create my own collaged "color plate" to represent bird life and habit . Most bird books now are beautifully photographed but I really enjoy vintage Audubon and in this case M. Catesby (1679-1749) paintings with their beautiful stylized detail and color. Other imagery credits for this piece go to , scrapbookgraphics, artist papers from K & Company, vintage stamps and zoological text.

    Beautiful,Lori. I love the old books too. I bought an old Audubon book recently but can't bring myself to cut it up, just scanning pages instead!

    Gorgeous! I love this beautiful bird and love the whole vintage realm ..it is pretty fabulous isn't it! The backdrop colors are so peaceful and yet energizing to me..i love the whole scene and color palette and everything in this piece Lori..this bird is just awesome too!

    Hi Lori - Every time I see your newest artpiece, I think to myself "this is the best Lori has ever done" - and then the next week arrives with a new batch of art and I am gobsmacked anew! (Gobsmacked is an Australian word for stunned or surprised). Your birdlife piece is sensational. There is so much to see when exploring further than the first impression. Superb in every way.
    Apologies for being missing in action over the past couple of weeks. I am way behind with my comments. A family crisis, now over, necessitating good old Grandma taking over the reins for a while.
