Twilight Tales

This is my entry for this week's Take a Word challenge "Blackbird". My bird of choice is the Crow- cousin to Raven and quite the storyteller and trickster. Crow is often a dream symbol both day and night for me, and represents the guardian of the threshold of passing from the old to the new; bringing change but teaching us to not take the change so seriously as to miss its lessons. Imagery from Finecrafted designs, the vintage moth, and Digital whisper.

  1. This is so mystical and there is so much to see with all the shadows. I love how some of the shadows at the bottom are words, fabulous Lori!

  4. Oh yes, that is a real ravenpainting;0)
I love the big black birds.
I live in an old house beside the villages graveyard. There are a lot of huge old trees, and these trees are full of crow nests.
I hear their crah crah every day. But I love it. The other birds may enjoy themeselfes in the south but the loyal ravenbirds stay. I am thankfull for that.
    Have a great day

  5. This is beautifully done, Lori. Crows fascinate me. Have you ever heard of the legend of the "crow funeral"? If not, check it out:

  15. Wonderful imagery, and always glad to see black birds (of any kind).

Interesting point about the guardian of the threshold, over here (UK) the Blackbird is the keeper of the doors and the guide through them, he is sometimes called Druid Dubh - the Black Druid.

  16. Lori, this is so beautiful. The softness of the background looks like a watercolor painting and is contrasted so well with the clear, sharp image of the bird. Just gorgeous.

  17. This is fascinating Lori, the pale doorway in the background and your wonderful crow in the fore. Is he the guardian of the doorway I wonder.

  23. I stop by your blog so often, and I fail to leave a comment because I am always left speechless...or, I feel so goofy for leaving the same "so gorgeous", "so awesome" comment. Your work is just so amazing Lori!!!

  24. Your art for this challenge is breathtaking, Lori! I'm always delighted and amazed by your creativity. I agree with Ophelia, "awesome" is a shallow word to describe your work. Even a standing O doesn't seem to cover it, but I'm doing it anyway!

  30. Crows abound in my part of the world. I like them for their own particular brand of beauty -shiny and majestic. Most people hate them for their raucous calls but they are part of my landscape and I'm glad they are here.
Lori, your artpiece is simply amazing and I love the story you have woven around the bird.
Sorry my comment is late this week.
