Art Academy Postcard

Early September and school begins again. I always enjoyed starting back to school with all new pens, pencils, binders and organizers (things didn't stay organized for long!) ; looking forward to a new year of learning and new experiences. Looking back I was always very practical minded about the courses I took but wish now that I had taken more art classes or gone to Art School... On the other hand I think our art developes with time, out of what we know and learn reflecting who we are and what we have become. With Art School in mind, I made this digital collage for the Sunday Postcard Art Challenge "School".

  1. Lori, your collage is stunning - fantastic textures and depth of colour. I love it and I enjoyed your reminiscences about the first day back at school and the joy of having everything new, the smell of the new books, etc. Took me back a very long way!

  7. Gorgeous card.

Almost makes me want to go back to school... almost... but not quite. I spent yesterday evening ironing name labels into my son's uniform, wonder if I can make a postcard out of that!

  8. Beautiful work here Lori and interesting comments about art school. At school, I was very good academically and the head mistress wasn't at all happy that I wanted to do so many art subjects...including needlework. She demanded a meeting with my mother to explain that I was wasting my abilities. My mom said that I was intelligent and independent enough to know what I wanted to do and she just wanted me to be happy.

  13. this card is certainly a must see in the larger size~!~ so many beautiful details~!!!~

i agree: one can learn basic principals of art but when it comes down to creating our own, it's all about (the artist's own) personal history and influences that make it unique and truly a work of art.
